What I Will Miss When This Is All Over

I hope you and your loved ones have been doing well considering everything going in the world.

Have you been ready to get back to normal? I'm sure a lot of you are feeling restless and bored. I will fully admit, taking long walks, going to movies and my favorite restaurants is something I cannot wait to get back to.

We live in a world where if you're not moving, or on the go at every moment of your day, you're losing time, losing resources, losing precious moments to hustle on towards your goals. And as much as I hustled every day towards my goals, the pandemic put the breaks on my timeline for the year (boooooooo!)

Now that life has forced me to slow down and take a look at my accomplishments, I realized how tired I am! Are you feeling that, too??

This is a reminder that it is okay to slow down. And instead of diving headfirst into that next venture, allocate some space to think about your next move, or do nothing at all. Take a break! Soon I will be returning to the office myself, and as I write this I already miss my bed and being my own space.

I don't think I'm ready just yet for things to return to normal.

Staying Home Has Given Me Permission to be Happy with My Solitude.

I can just as easily find activities to do online with friends or by myself. My calendar is still pretty full. I still have piles of books to read or shows to watch and I still have my programming study plan and courses to go through.

Staying Home Has Given Me Permission to Say 'No'. Full Stop.

If I don't feel like going to an online happy hour, I say no. If I don't want to participate in game night with friends, I say no. If I don't feel like looking at my study plan for an hour, I say no. What feels good for me today may not feel good for me tomorrow or the next day. So, instead of rickrolling my own feelings, I've learned to better listen to my instincts and form better habits around my boundaries. This is all in the pursuit to keep me happy and comfortable, for today, tomorrow and beyond.

Staying Home Has Given Me More Time To Pursue My Goals

What if I told you that staying home helped me be even more productive??

The truth is that I would spend days on end in a super tight schedule before the pandemic.

Waking up at 5:30 am, having only 90 minutes to work out, shower, dress, and commute to work. I would stay in the office for 8 hours, busy in meetings, having people in my face, me in theirs, exchanging unnecessary energy back and forth until it was time to go at 4:30.

Depending on the day I would tutor until late, or go home and have no energy to work on my list of goals I had for myself. Sometimes, I would stay up late to accomplish at least one goal or leave it all for Weekend Sidney after she slept and regained the energy lost during the week.

Now? I still wake up at 5:30 (yuck!), I meditate, I journal, workout and have a decent breakfast. I am also able to work on my business and sometimes film YouTube videos or take a look at my study plan, all before my first meeting in the morning.

I wouldn't have made the time to build my business up or start making videos again without slowing down. So before we all return to normal, enjoy the extra time you have on your hands. You might realize that the people around you, their energies, or your own pursuits are not in alignment with what you want, and that's okay to pivot, change course, or take a break.

And if you're still looking to build your programming skills while we're still at home, let's work together to find a balance in your schedule to get you there.
